It's all in the details...

Details are the small touches that personalize your wedding to suit you, your fiance, and both your style. Here are some of the small details I've been working on...

Here are our napkins that will be placed in the bar area for our guests! Our monogram on the napkins will also match the monogram on the favor boxes. The napkins are from theknot.com. Do not buy them full price, it's way expensive, wait for a sale and google 'theknot coupon codes'. Some that I found worked included 'newshopper' (takes $5.00 off your total purchase) and 'tkeasy15' (15% off your total purchase).

These are my gorgeous shoes and garter! My shoes were dyed at David's Bridal to match the bridesmaid dresses...and I also found my garter at Michael's for $4.99 ($2.50 with my 50% off coup!)! But I did not like the bow that was on it so I removed it and bought a bling button and hot glued in on. So total cost of my garter was a whopping $5.50! DIY totally pays off!

I always say that shoes can transform your confidence. These shoes make me feel like an absolute princess.

One more added 'detail' that will be added later on is some blue rhinestones that I am going to place on the bottom of the shoes that say 'I do' as my 'something blue'.

Cake: Check!

So I went to meet with Anna Cakes, a local cake baker, two days ago. I met her at a bridal show almost a year ago and tasted her coconut cake and was hooked! My supervisor's daughter also used Anna for her wedding almost three years ago and ranted and raved about how wonderful Anna's Cakes were. So I was pretty set in my mind that Anna was the one I wanted to bake our wedding cake.

My sister, Tasha and I went to meet Anna at Panera for a tasting. It was raining and there was a tornado warning, that was no stopping us! Tasha and I LOVED the coconut cake with both the coconut filling (it has some coconut peices) and raspberry filling. We also tried red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting (a favorite of Yamil's) but it was not our favorite simply because we are not red velvet cake lovers but I have to admit it was the best one I have tried. Yamil had to work but Anna was great and gave me some to take home for him to try.

I could not wait for Yamil to get home so I could get confirmation from him that he loved her cake too. To my disbelief, Yamil liked the red velvet but it was coconut cake with raspberry filling that was a winner. As soon as he tried it, he said "Mm, this is the one" and put down his fork and did not try and of the others. Yamil said that the coconut cake with raspberry reminded him of a Jelly Roll Cake that he grew up eating in Puerto Rico. I begged him to try the coconut with coconut filling but he said that he did not like coconut chunks but he knew I loved it so we compromised (more him than me lol) and decided to leave that for the top layer.

So our final selection was a three tier round coconut cake, the bottom two layers will have raspberry and the top will have coconut filling. Anna will use buttercream but no fondant (I do not care too much for fondant and it was more expensive than buttercream)

That night I sent Anna an email to notify her of our decision and hold our date. That was the easiest decision I made in this whole wedding process. Hopefully the tasting for the reception food will be just as easy!

Finally the time has come to select bridesmaid dresses and shoes! Desi (Matron of Honor), Nicole, Christine and Nayara were there! My maid of honor is in NY and could not attend but she was there in spirit.

We selected dresses and dyeable shoes to match in the color Sangria from David's Bridal.

Wedding Colors

After many, many, many different changes I have finally decided that my colors are: Plum & Chartreuse.

I have loved the color plum (in the purple family) since I was a little girl. I felt this color best represented the bride. The plum is rich lucious purple that is elegant and warm. And the pop of chartreuse represents a light, airy, fresh addition to the pallete. Since the wedding will occurr in the early morning, I wanted something light, modern, and youthful.

What do you think?

Flowers...

I have been trying to find flowers for the bridesmaids that I can also reuse for centerpieces (great way to save on flowers!). Here are some flowers, let me know what you think...

For the bridesmaids?

I love the different shades of pinks and purples, it gives the bouquet a lot of depth!

Fast Forward...

So let me get you all up to speed.

My fiance' proposed to me on July 31, 2009. And as soon as we got engaged, we were looking for the PERFECT venue where we could envision our special day. We searched high (most too high) and low. After our 6 month search, in January 2010 we booked our venue at:

When sharing a ride turned into sharing a life...

"Wanna carpool?" was one of the first lines I said to my fiance' when we first met at our job in which we had to complete orientation together in 2005. Little did I know that sharing a ride together would eventually turn into sharing our life together (hence the name of my blog).

I created this blog to enjoy the wedding planning process and mostly, so my best friend in New York would be right there next to me through the whole journey.

So, please grab a seat and enjoy the ride! :)
